LEMO (UK) - Sussex

Project – LEMO (UK) North Street Worthing Sussex
Customer & Principal Contractor – Denne Construction Ltd
Consultant Engineer – Hemsley Orrell Partnership
Scope - 104 no 300kN to 1100kN bearing piles
Value - £35K

This new production facility & office building for Client LEMO (UK) Ltd includes a basement approximately 3.5m deep.

The concrete and steel framed structure is founded on piles within the basement and at ground floor level. Piles of 350mm and 450mm diameter are socketed into the high grade rock chalk with overall pile lengths of between 8m and 10m.

Our customer had intended to pile from ground level prior to excavation of the basement; this would have then involved a slow excavation around piles cast to platform level as the ground conditions dictated the use of CFA rather than rotary bored piles. Our proposal to pile from basement level saved time off the main contract programme and resulted in shorter pile lengths with no wastage.

The piling project was completed in just 5 working days including mobilising / demobilising.
